Skin Lesions Reconstructive Surgery

The severity of skin lesions can vary greatly, ranging from minor ones such as freckles or moles to more serious skin cancers such as Squamous Cell Carcinoma or Melanoma. Treatment will vary significantly depending on the type of skin lesion.

Some people find non-cancerous lesions to be a nuisance and a simple surgical treatment can be a convenient and timely option. Patients with cancerous lesions however, should receive immediate surgical treatment to reduce the risk of further complications.

Dr. Martin Jugenburg and the friendly, professional staff of the Plastica Clinic provide patients with some of the most sophisticated reconstructive surgeries for skin lesions.

Dr. Jugenburg’s extensive experience and meticulous surgical techniques greatly reduce the risks associated with such surgical treatments and diminish the post-operative recovery time of his patients. Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Jugenburg offers patients some of the most advanced reconstructive and cosmetic surgery treatments available in the GTA.

Benign (non-cancerous) Skin Lesions

It is normal to have freckles, moles, and other skin lesions. If these lesions bother you, however, it is possible to have them removed through various techniques. These treatments usually require only a few minutes and you do not need to take time off for recovery.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

Basal Cell Carcinoma is the mildest of all skin cancers. It is a slowly growing lesion that doesn’t spread through your body. It is due to sun exposure, therefore if you have one Basal Cell Carcinoma, it is likely that other parts of your skin were also equally exposed to the sun and are at risk of developing other Basal Cell Carcinoma lesions. If you have concerns about any of your skin lesions, you should seek medical attention to be properly examined.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Squamous Cell Carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that can be quickly growing. It may present as spot that is ulcerated and is not healing. If you have any concerns about any of your skin spots, you should see medical attention to be properly examined.

Melanoma

Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer.

It is characterized by the ABC’s

  • Asymmetric shape
  • Border is irregular
  • Color is variable (it is not a uniform color)
  • Diameter is greater than 6mm
  • Elevation of the lesion (it is not flush with the skin)
  • Exposure to sun (history of sun burns)

If any of these apply to your skin spots, you should see a Plastic Surgeon or a Dermatologist to be properly examined.
