USING YOUR OWN FAT FOR BREAST ENLARGEMENT

Fat grafting (or fat transfer) to breasts is not a new procedure.  It has been around for several years, but it did not gain wide-spread popularity for two reasons.  One, it is difficult to control how much of the transferred fat survives the transfer, and two, there has always been a concern that perhaps the transferred fat could make it more difficult for radiologist to read mammograms.  Although there have been scientific studies that demonstrated the safety of fat transfers, more recent studies has specifically looked at the ability of radiologists to read mammograms after fat transfer to breasts.  And the results confirmed that fat grafting (transfer) to breasts is a safe and effective alternative to breast implants.

And as an add ed Bonus, because the fat has to be taken from somewhere else on your body, liposuction is used and thus it's like throwing in Liposuction of your unwanted fat for FREE!

Breast enlargement surgery is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures by Dr. Jugenburg.  During your consultation, Dr. Jugenburg will explain the many different ways that this procedure can be performed.  You will have the opportunity to try out different implant sizes and shapes to help you determine which one best suits your goals.  Breast augmenta tion can be done using either silicone implants, or saline implants.

Breast Augmentation Scars

Scars after a breast augmentation can be in one of three places.  In the armpit, around the areola, or under the breast.  These scars all tend to heal very nicely and once healed are barely visible.  The picture above shows a patient with scars hidden in the fold under the breast.  In the pictures below you seen what a scar around the nipple and in the armpit look like.

Incisions under the armpit takes the scar away from the breast, so there are no scars on the breasts at all.  This technique is ideal for patients who do not have large breasts to start with, and who have minimal drooping of their breasts.  As you can see from the pictures below, the scar is completely invisible in the left picture (with the arm down) and the right picture (with the arm straight up) you can barely see the scar (the darkened brownish area inside the armpit).

Why have Breast Augmentation done?
Breast augmentation can be done for purely cosmetic reasons or to reconstruct breasts that have been affected by surgery, pregnancy, or weight loss.
Breast augmentation may help you:

• Enhance the appearance of your breasts if you feel your breast size is too small.

• Reconstruct your breasts after having breast surgery for cancer or other conditions.

Breast Implants

Breast implants may be smooth or textured, round or shaped like a teardrop. They consist of a silicone shell filled with salt water (saline) or silicone gel.  You will be able to chose from a wide variety of sizes and shapes.  During your initial consultation, you will be able to hold, feel, and try out any one of our sample implants.  Our implants are the Natrelle line of breast implants, made by Allergan, the leader in breast implants.  You can rest assured that you will be getting implants which are:

• most reliable breast implants
• safest breast implants
• most natural feeling breast implants
• most natural looking breast implants

Breast Enlargement Surgery
Breast augmentation surgery - also known as augmentation mammaplasty - is performed under general anesthesia.  The implant is inserted through one three possible places:

• The inframammary (in the breast fold) incision is one of the most common incisions and provides excellent visibility and control.  It can be used with all types of implants, sizes, and breast shapes.
• A periareolar incision (around the nipple) follows the natural line of the dark skin around your nipple (areola). This incision may leave a less noticeable scar than does the inframammary incision, but it might also impact your ability to breast-feed or affect sensation in your nipple.  In patients with very small areolas, this approach may not be possible.
• The axillary incision (under the arm) is made in your armpit and is well hidden.  Scars here heal very well and are rarely visible once completely healed.  This approach however has limitations.  Implants can only be placed under the muscle (we do not place implants above the muscle through this approach) and only round implants can be used.  Usually round saline implants are ideal for this approach.

After making the incision through either one of the above mentioned approaches, a space is created for the placement of the breast implant.  This may be behind the breast glandular tissue and above the muscle (subglandular), or below the muscle (submuscular). The implant is then inserted and centered behind your nipple.  Pain and discomfort after the surgery is kept to a minimum with prescription pain killers.

The breast implant surgery takes about an hour and you will be able to go home the same day.  Before leaving, you will spend a short time in the recovery area where Dr. Jugenburg will examine you one more time before you leave for home.  You will be given breast implant-specific instructions on how to care for your new breasts.  A family member or a friend should take you home and stay with you initially.  Expect to feel tired and drowsy for the first 24 hours.
